Our Place of Worship:
First of all let us clarify our position – Whether your place of worship is an impressive Cathedral, a humble church building, or the street itself; the Bible is clear – the ‘Church’ referred to in the Scriptures is a gathering of Christians no matter where. The church building itself, is merely the place they gather to worship Christ. We choose to worship The Lord and preach the good news of the Gospel out in the open air, where our ceiling is the sky, and our floor the cobbled streets of Edinburgh – Welcome to our Church 🙂
John 3:7 What’s it all About?
What exactly does John 3:7 say ? Well depending on what translation you use it goes something like this – “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.” (NASB)
Jesus here, was referring to a conversation with a certain leader of the Pharisees called Nicodemus; who was ridiculing the idea that a person could be born again – “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?”
Of course he was being a little facetious, and certainly understood that there was another point that Jesus was making. That point was simply this – no-one can gain entry to the Kingdom of Heaven, unless they undergo a radical transformation in the spirit! They must be ‘born again’ in spirit and truth, before they can ever hope to see the ‘Kingdom of God.’
The church building cannot save; good works are no guarantee of a place in heaven; the priest or the minister is unable to save – even giving all your money to the poor, and wandering around in sackcloth, will not get you even a back row seat in Heaven’s stadium! No, to get to heaven takes a radical step, a spiritual step – belief in the only one who is capable of forgiveness at a supernatural level – Jesus himself.
In a nutshell, to be ‘Born Again’ simply means to accept Jesus, and the sacrifice that he has made for us, in order that we might radically turnaround from the path of destruction that we are all on without God, and gain entry through Jesus Himself into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Is there another way to gain entry into this place? The Bible states it clearly in the book of Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
The Street Church in Edinburgh is all about bringing this life-giving message to the people of Edinburgh City, and the many visitors from around the Globe.
